How your tank moves and heats water
Each tank has inlets that enters and exits the tank to move the water to where you need it, such as shower, dishwasher, and other fixtures. There is also a thermostat to monitor the temperature and a pressure relief valve to help ensure the heating process does not produce unsafe levels of water pressure.
The water enters
The water enters the tank coming from the main water supply.
The tank heats
The heating burner or element underneath the tank heats the water.
Hot water rises
Hot water rises to the top of the tank.
Fixtures demand water
When hot water is demanded from the exits, it takes the hot water from the top of the tank.
What are the most common signs of a damaged water heater?
- Rust on the tank
- Noises when the unit is on
- Water in the collection pan under the tank
- Rust in your hot water

Rust on the tank
Visible rust can be a sign your tank is aging or ready for replacement.

Noises when on
New noises during operation can mean it is time for service or diagnosis.

Water in the pan
Water under the tank can indicate a leak that should not be ignored.
Hot Water Tank Replacement
Most hot water tank brands have 8-10 years warranty for the tank. You might want to consider replacing your tank before a disaster happens. Nobody wants a pool in their furnace room or basement.
When you have an old and out of warranty hot water tank, it is not about "if it leaks" but "when will it leak". How often do you visit your furnace room or basement where your hot water tank is? Surely, you would not want to arrive home from watching a great game just to find out you already have an unwanted pool due to flooding. Not to think about the cost it will bring for repairs and renovations comparing to how much it will cost to replace your hot water tank.
Benefits of Hot Water Tank
You're on a BudgetThe critical function of a hot water heating system is to provide warm water on demand to your taps and plumbing equipment. If you did not have a water heater, you would have to manually heat water for bathing, washing your hands, and more.
What do you consider when looking for a water heater? If you are looking to replace your current one with a budget-friendly unit, a hot water tank system may be the option. This is less complicated than tankless models, which means less expensive maintenance and repairs when it is not working correctly.
Bigger size, Bigger spaceMany homeowners still prefer to use a storage water heater as their primary water heating source. It can keep massive volumes of water up to 300 liters, which is more than enough for a family of four people.
It is possible to send hot water to numerous usage sites such as the basin, the kitchen, the bathtub, and the shower tap using a storage water heater.
Consistent Hot Water SupplyOne of the benefits of using storage hot water tanks is that they can provide a more enjoyable showering experience. The main pressure systems rely on gravity to produce excellent water pressure while also providing comfort to the user.
This indicates that water can flow at high pressure at rates of up to around ten lit/min while still providing consistently hot water to you.
Types of Hot Water Tank
Storage water heaters are relatively simple to set up. They do not need to be installed at the exact location where they will be used, and they can be placed anywhere in the house. That means the installation location is flexible.
Hot Water Tank
A Hot Water Tank burns fuel and the heat from the combustion at the bottom of the tank is used to heat the water. They come in different sizes, 40G up to 75G, depending on your need for hot water. It is low-cost but essentially not energy efficient as it keeps the water in your tank heated if the water temperature drops to what it was set up to keep even if you are not using or need hot water.
This is installed in a spot where it can access to the exhaust pipes or chimney to transfer exhaust gases outside the house. No extra power to help exhaust gases is needed as heated air generally rises through a vertical vent.
Power Vented Hot Water Tank
It works exactly the same as the conventional hot water tank and the only difference is its venting. It is a great option if the hot water tank is to be installed in a location that does not have access to a vertical vent or chimney.
A power vent water heater uses a blower/fan to help to exhaust gases from the hot water heater.
Heat Pump Hot Water Heater
Heat Pump Hot Water Heater use electricity to draw in heat from the surroundings and use it to heat the water instead of heating the water directly. This works as the heat pump that is used with a forced air system to cool or warm the air flowing in the house.
They are suitable to be installed in places that are properly ventilated and not chilly since the less heat the area has, the less efficient they become. These units can be a bit expensive but can save you money in the long run due to its efficiency particularly if placed in a great spot in your home.
